Our Muslim community must learn how to engage in religious topics without unfair judgments. It seems like people are not free to hold an opinion on any topic based on the information available to them without someone telling them that they are not qualified to even think about it. What then qualifies a person to talk about his own religion, holding a degree in Islamic studies or a clerical position? It is important for us to remember that many issues in Islam have different interpretations, and any principle of ruling that your favourite scholars accept as final has been refuted or debated by another scholar of equal or lower standing in the past. There is no single, uniform, unrefutable opinion beyond the basic fundamentals of the religion. That is why millions of religious books have been written throughout the millenia. Why can't we continue with such practices? We must learn how to be civil in the way we participate in public discourses. This will enrich the discussions and will help us to teach and learn. Nobody has the monopoly of knowledge. We can respectfully supply new information or references for learning enhancement. Please stop telling people to shut up because they are not religious scholars. Unsurprisingly, those who are in the habit of doing so are not scholars in any capacity too. This form of intellectual bullying and extreme gatekeeping will not help the community to grow. Knowledge dies when simple debates and honest discussions are not allowed!
